5 Former Chiefs Still Unemployed as OTAs Arrive
By Joe Summers
5. Richie James - WR
Richie James was a popular sleeper pick to have a strong season last year in training camp. He wound up catching only 10 passes for 114 yards while battling injuries, never quite sticking on special teams either.
James was almost the Chiefs' Super Bowl hero instead of Hardman, and now hopes to carve out a role somewhere to build off his promising 2022 campaign. That season, James caught 57 passes for 569 yards and four TDs with the NFL's lowest drop rate.
At only 28 years old, James can still help a team in a limited role at receiver and more expansive one on special teams.
The 2018 seventh-round pick began his career with the 49ers before spending a year with the Giants and Chiefs each. There are limited remaining options at the position in free agency, so perhaps James can sign on with a team before training camp.
I don't think he'll get another opportunity with the Chiefs, but there's always room for a twitchy receiver with great hands in the league.
