5. Marquez Valdes-Scantling - WR

Valdes-Scantling is the single-biggest disappointment for the Chiefs in 2023. There's no way to sugarcoat things, it's been an absolute disastrous year for the once-viable deep threat.

What did $11 million, the sixth-highest cap hit on the team, get the Chiefs? 21 catches for 315 yards and one TD, along with numerous critical drops in big moments. Yikes.

The decision to move on from Valdes-Scantling after this season has likely already been made, so I'd guess he's trying to prove he belongs on an NFL roster at all in 2024. Given his unbecoming refusal to take accountability, he might be fighting an uphill battle.

Let's not forget that Valdes-Scantling was the hero of last year's AFC Championship game. He's got an opportunity to end his Chiefs' career on a positive note and I'm rooting for him.

Otherwise, the lasting memory of Valdes-Scantling will be that dropped pass against the Eagles and the subsequent pretending it didn't happen when reporters asked him about it.

He's got the straight-line speed to get open deep - it's catching those passes that's the problem. Haul in a deep pass for a TD in the playoffs and Chiefs fans just may remember Valdes-Scantling fondly, after all.
