Pete Fairbanks, RP

Fairbanks is Tampa Bay’s closer, so he might not be available if the Rays make a run over the next couple of weeks.

But he would be an excellent addition if the Royals can make it happen.

He’s been very strong over the last three years with a sub-3.00 ERA and sub-1.00 WHIP, but most impressive has been his work in the ninth inning.

Fairbanks is 45-for-51 in save opportunities over the last three seasons and it’s easy to see why. He strikes out more than a batter per inning (136 Ks in 96 ⅔ innings over the last 3 seasons), which makes it difficult for teams to rally.

But you must note that Fairbanks is not the healthiest of pitchers. He hasn’t pitched 46 innings or more in ANY season of his career as he’s dealt with hip, forearm, lat and shoulder injuries, along with having Raynaud’s syndrome, which can cause numbness in his fingers.

Fairbanks, like most relievers, is not without risk.
