3. Bryan Cook - S

Bryan Cook suffered a broken ankle and missed the end of the season, though he'll be massively important for Kansas City's secondary. Not only does is he the undisputed second safety with Mike Edwards gone, but he's auditioning for the No. 1 spot with Justin Reid on an expiring contract.

Before getting injured, Cook had 42 tackles, two deflected passes, two fumble recoveries and an interception, starting to deliver on the promise he showed when the Chiefs drafted him in the second round.

Chamarri Conner will play a huge role as well, though Cook is the theoretical future leader of the safety room. If he breaks out, Kansas City may have the luxury of making a business decision regarding Reid. Difficult decisions lie ahead that could be come easier with strong play from Cook.

The Chiefs clearly have a preference for physical players in the secondary. Provided his ankle is healed, Cook fits that mold. I love what Reid brings to the team but it's notable that Brett Veach has never given a player in the secondary an extension.

Cook's ascension falls in line with how Veach has built this team in recent years. He's someone I'll be keyed in on throughout OTAs and training camp, hoping he's showing no lingering effects from the injury.
