3. MJ Melendez - RF/C

Melendez had a strong close to the season and I believe the Royals should capitalize on his trade value while they can.

Reported interest in outfielders like Mark Canha sort of shows the Royals' hand here. They should acquire an outfielder, though Melendez's lack of development is a primary reason why.

He had -0.4 WAR (Wins Above Replacement) and hit just .235. While he hit .280 in August and turned things around, Kansas City can't afford to be patient any longer. Melendez didn't work out and that's okay.

Teams will be interested in acquiring a talented young player with pop who can play multiple positions. J.J. Picollo needs to be aggressive, just like he was in acquiring Cole Ragans, which means Melendez should be out the door.

I think he'll be a productive player long-term, but Melendez fits the same mold as Singer: players the Royals can get value for before it's too late.
