The Chiefs should go after some risk-reward options

2. CJ Henderson, Cornerback

The Kansas City Chiefs are no strangers to the idea of taking someone who was drafted high and trying to resurrect their professional careers. We've seen them do that a lot during the Andy Reid era.

Heck, the first major move of the Andy Reid era -- trading for Alex Smith at quarterback -- sort of set the tone for this mindset and mentality. And the Chiefs bring in guys like this all the time. It just so happens that the cornerback position might be the one spot on this roster where there is more uncertainty than just about any other.

Although the Chiefs have one of the best young cornerbacks in the league -- former first-round pick Trent McDuffie -- they have a lot of question marks at that position group and are entering the 2024 season with a lot of hope that someone else from McDuffie's draft class (2022) can become a full-time starter and impact player.

The Chiefs lost veteran L'Jarius Sneed this offseason, trading him to the Tennessee Titans because they weren't going to be able to afford giving him the long-term deal he wanted.

How about the idea of adding former first-round pick CJ Henderson to the mix? Henderson didn't work out as a flyer option for the Houston Texans this offseason (which is undoubtedly a concern) but the talent and physical makeup is there for at least a flyer on the practice squad. The Chiefs could get a look at Henderson in practice with very little risk attached and potentially come away with a future starter at outside cornerback.

When it comes to NFL Draft reclamation projects, the Chiefs are typically more willing than other teams to take risks. This just so happens to be a relatively low-risk, potentially high-reward move at a position group of need.
