2. Jerick McKinnon

A reunion with Jerick McKinnon feels more likely than signing someone new like Breida. McKinnon already knows the offense and has Patrick Mahomes' trust, so the transition would be seamless to bring him back. It's unclear if his body is fully healthy but if he's good to go, I'd expect McKinnon to be one of Brett Veach's first phone calls.

In three years with the Chiefs, McKinnon carried the ball 105 times for 413 yards and two TDs while adding 94 catches for 811 yards and 14 TDs through the air. He was one of Mahomes' top targets in 2022, catching nine TD passes while helping propel Kansas City to the Super Bowl.

He's on the wrong side of 30 with a lengthy injury history. That's likely why he's still a free agent, but the Chiefs wouldn't need him to handle a large workload.

We know he can block well and catch passes. That's all he'd truly be required to do given Steele's ability on early downs. When a star like Pacheco goes down, on top of Hollywood Brown and Clyde Edwards-Helaire's respective absences, you need guys you can trust. McKinnon is the best option available in that regard.

Losing Pacheco is a massive blow to the offense, but McKinnon could help ease the pain by reuniting with the team he won two Super Bowls with.
