2. Irv Smith, Jr., Tight End

A second-round pick out of Alabama in 2019, Irv Smith, Jr. was seen as a potential receivint threat at tight end. The concern with him, however, was his size. At just 6-foot-2 and 240 pounds, Smith was built like a fullback rather than a tight end.

The Minnesota Vikings still liked him enough to bring him in and Kevin Stefanski — who was the offensive coordinator during Smith's rookie season — was thrilled to have him. Stefanski often employed a two tight end set and had Smith playing opposite veteran Kyle Rudolph.

Smith had respectable numbers that year as he recorded 311 yards and two touchdowns on 36 receptions. He followed that up with 30 catches for 365 yards and five touchdowns. Not only did he haul in more touchdown catches but Smith also went from 8.6 yards per catch as a rookie to 12.2.

That proved to be his best season, however, as Smith has struggled since then. Injuries kept him off the field in 2021 and then he missed nine more games in 2022. Smith left Minnesota and joined the Cincinnati Bengals in 2023 but again, wasn't able to deliver. He put up just 115 yards and a touchdown on 18 catches with a career-low 6.4 yards per grab.

Now in Kansas City, Smith could be on his final chance in the NFL. Signing with the Chiefs was a smart move on his part since Andy Reid knows how to get the most out of everyone on offense. The problem is, there are a lot of talented tight end — plus they just signed Geor'quarius Spivey. Meanwhile, Smith hasn't done enough to turn heads and isn't making headlines during camp.
