3. Adalberto Mondesi - IF

Perhaps no Royals player had greater unfulfilled promise over the last decade than Adalberto Mondesi. He made his professional debut in the 2015 World Series, earning a ring in the process and winning over fans with his speed and versatility, but injuries derailed his promising career and now he's still looking for a job in 2024.

Mondesi spent seven years with the Royals though his best season came in 2018. He hit .276 with an .804 OPS, 14 home runs and 32 stolen bases in just 75 games. As was often the case, injuries curtailed his season and he hasn't regained that form since.

He was ultimately traded to the Boston Red Sox but didn't stick there either. For a guy with Mondesi's unique blend of power and speed, it's sad to see the way his career turned out.

An ultimate cautionary tale of how important availability is in the sport, Mondesi is now out of the league at just 28 years old.

It's possible an organization takes a flyer on him this summer, because his tools are ones you can't teach, but it looks like his days as a professional may be over. Let's just hope this 2024 team is able to stay healthy.
