3 Former Chiefs Kansas City Should Sign for a Reunion in Free Agency
By Joe Summers
2. Rashad Fenton - CB
Fenton is an unrestricted free agent after spending last season with the Cardinals, and he could make sense for the Chiefs to bring back as a secondary depth piece if the team does ultimately trade away L'Jarius Sneed.
Originally a sixth-round draft pick in 2019, the 27-year-old ultimately landed on the Injured Reserve list last year and didn't play a game for the Cardinals. As a result, he could be a low-cost signing that'd give the unit a promising player who already is familiar with Steve Spagnuolo's defensive system.
He had 20 deflected passes in parts of four seasons in Kansas City, particularly shining early in his career when he allowed just a 57.7 passer rating when targeted in his rookie campaign.
Fenton has value on special teams as well. Having played under Dave Toub, he played 323 special teams snaps, so he's got familiarity with both major units that he'd rejoin. This is a much better defense than the one he initially played on too, and I expect less pressure would let Fenton regain that rookie-year form provided the injury doesn't linger.
If Veach is looking for a low-cost player that knows the system and veterans in the locker room, Fenton is a logical choice to consider.
