3. Jaylen Watson, cornerback

One thing you can't help but be intrigued by going into the start of this season for the Kansas City Chiefs is what the cornerback position group is going to look like.

As of right now, Jaylen Watson could be penciled in as the starter, but that could honestly change week over week or the Chiefs could look to make wholesale changes at some point during the season.

Watson is part of Kansas City's defensive back-loaded 2022 NFL Draft class which includes young star Trent McDuffie as well as fellow cornerbacks Joshua Williams and Nazeeh Johnson. All of those guys competed throughout the course of the offseason and I don't know that the preseason provided all that much clarity, which both works for and against the Chiefs.

It works for them in that the Ravens won't have a clear idea of who to gameplan for. It works against them because, well, they may not have a viable solution.

Tough financial decisions have to be made when you have as much success as we've seen from Kansas City, and this offseason's big sacrifice was L'Jarius Sneed. This team has done such an exceptional job of developing corners, however, that you sort of tend to give them the benefit of the doubt here.

And while Jaylen Watson could come out and have a phenomenal season, establishing himself as a long-term option, it's also equally possible that the Chiefs will be scouring free agency or the trade block for options to come in and replace the players they currently have on the roster. In some way, we've already seen the Chiefs prepping for a scenario like this by adding former Cowboys draft pick Eric Scott Jr. to the practice squad.
