3 Chiefs Players Who Need More Playing Time to Win 2024 Super Bowl
By Joe Summers
It's officially time to focus on the playoffs as the Chiefs hope to secure a third Super Bowl win in the last five seasons.
Kansas City is the No. 3 seed in the AFC and we'll see who awaits us in the Wild Card round, though the coaching staff is actively preparing strategies to roll through the conference.
We've seen the offense struggle and an exceptional defensive effort, yet improvements are necessary to reach the ultimate goal. Let's look at three players who need more playing time for the Chiefs to hoist another Lombardi Trophy.
3 Chiefs Players Who Need More Playing Time to Win Super Bowl
1. Drue Tranquill - LB
Tranquill hasn't eclipsed 40% of the snaps for three straight weeks, but he's been the Chiefs' best linebacker in my book. Nobody else in the room can defend passes like Tranquill can, and I'd argue he was Brett Veach's best offseason signing.
Kansas City's defense was susceptible to short passes and runs over the last couple of weeks. Nick Bolton and Willie Gay Jr. are strong run defenders, though they were routinely targeted early in games recently.
The Chiefs looked vulnerable before Steve Spagnuolo's excellent adjustments helped curb the problem, but putting Tranquill on the field sooner will help alleviate those concerns.
While there's still a meaningless Week 18 game to be played, Tranquill has 79 tackles with 4.5 sacks and a pair of forced fumbles. I think he's among the more important defensive playoffs for a long playoff run, so fingers crossed he's on the field.
Outside of L'Jarius Sneed, extending Tranquill is one of my top priorities this offseason. He'll show you why over the next few weeks.
