3 Chiefs Who Have Locked Up a Roster Spot Before Preseason Finale
The final preseason game will certainly be helpful for evaluation purposes, but most of the 53-man roster spots are likely locked up in all reality. The Kansas City Chiefs are on a quest to win their third Super Bowl in a row, and beyond just Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid, it obviously takes a village to make that happen. Every roster spot is crucial.
As much continuity as this roster does have, there are going to be plenty of new faces helping the Chiefs in their quest to three-peat this coming season. Which players were on the roster bubble before the start of the preseason and have potentially already locked up spots with the final preseason game looming on Thursday?
Let's look at a trio of names you should expect to see contributing to this roster in 2024.
1. Justyn Ross, Wide Receiver
The hype surrounding Justyn Ross is nothing new, but we might finally get to see him play some real football for the Chiefs. Well, to be fair, we did get to see Ross appear in 10 games last season, but he received just 11 targets and wasn't as involved as you would hope for a team that has been trying to find any sort of consistency at the wide receiver position.
Even though Ross has just one catch in two preseason games, the Chiefs have had him around forever and know what he brings to the table. We've been clinging to the potential he showed at Clemson for quite some time now, but with Ross's combination of size and speed along with his prowess in the red zone, he seems like a very likely fit for the 53-man roster especially with Marquise Brown recovering from a shoulder injury.
The Chiefs have a chance to really see what they've got with Ross early in the year, especially if the NFL does bring down the hammer on Rashee Rice (which, at this point, remains unknown).
