The Royals wrapped up a season-opening series hosting the Minnesota Twins with a dominant 11-0 victory that showcased what makes this group such an exciting team for fans desperate to see a competitive team again.

Kansas City may have lost the series, but still outscored the Twins 13-9 and have a lot of reasons to feel optimistic about the Royals. The offense and bullpen struggled in the first two games, though I'm coming away from this series encouraged about the future.

With that in mind, let's look at three big observations from the first series of the year as the Royals get set to take on the Orioles.

3 Big Observations From the Royals' First Series vs. Twins

1. Bobby Witt Jr. is a Fire-Breathing Baseball Dragon

It's hard to imagine a better start for the newly-minted highest-paid player in Royals history. Through three games, Bobby Witt Jr. is batting .545/.615/1.273 with 14 total bases, three doubles, a triple, a home run and several highlight defensive plays. He looks like a top-five player in the sport right now and the Royals may have gotten a bargain with his long-term contract.

Whether he's booming a moon-shot over the centerfield fence or hustling around first to turn a single into a double, Witt Jr. explodes off the screen at least once in every game. It's been an incredible first few days for Royals fans, largely because of how good the third-year superstar has been.

While Witt Jr. likely can't keep up this level of production, he'll be in the thick of the AL MVP race even if he falls off a bit.

Shoot, Witt Jr. was just a double away from hitting for the cycle in the fourth inning on Sunday. It's incredible to think about how good he could become given he's just 23 years old still and I can't wait to watch him develop in the coming years.

Rejoice, Kansas City. We've found our knight in shining armor.
