Over the past decade, the Kansas City Chiefs have consistently been a step ahead of the Buffalo Bills during the NFL Draft, pulling off some important draft-day trades to swap places or get ahead of them. This began in 2017 when Kansas City traded up to pick No. 10 draft Patrick Mahomes. Although the Bills selected Josh Allen a year later, Mahomes has proven to be the better quarterback, besting Allen when it matters in the playoffs.
In 2022, the Chiefs traded with the New England Patriots to receive the No. 21 pick, jumping Buffalo by two spots to select cornerback Trent McDuffie. McDuffie has become one of the best cornerbacks in the league, whereas the Bills' first-round pick, Kair Elam, was traded to the Dallas Cowboys this offseason.
Finally, last year, Kansas City traded a pick with Buffalo and selected Xavier Worthy, while the Bills drafted Keon Coleman. Even though Worthy struggled to begin his rookie season, he ended up having a better overall season than Coleman.
That said, it seems the Chiefs and Bills have their eyes set on the same prospect in this year's draft. According to Charles Goldman of AtoZ Sports, both teams have interest in Florida State defensive tackle Joshua Farmer. Given that both teams need to find a DT who can play alongside a top-end counterpart, this makes sense.
The Chiefs and Bills have shown interest in the same 2025 NFL Draft prospect at the defensive tackle position, which could lead to a familiar scenario between Brett Veach and Brandon Beane. https://t.co/oOuEtMIUfi pic.twitter.com/2CWI2QvnNf

Both Chiefs and Bills Have Their Eyes Set on DT Joshua Farmer in Draft
Kansas City had their first formal meeting with Farmer during the NFL scouting combine, as did the Bills. Following the combine, the Chiefs reportedly brought the Florida State prospect in for a top-30 visit, while Buffalo did not.
Despite this, both teams have been in constant contact with Farmer as he shared at Florida State's Pro Day. The 22-year-old said, "I talk to the Bills and Kansas City every day. Like every day, I talk to the Bills and Kansas City.:
The interest both teams are showing in him is totally warranted. Over the past two seasons, Farmer has recorded 64 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, nine sacks, two passes batted, and one forced fumble. Having a force like that next to Chris Jones or Ed Oliver could make the middle of the defensive line a nightmare.
Even so, if Kansas City truly wants to acquire Farmer they would have to yet again trade up ahead of the Bills. The FSU product is currently projected to go on day two of the draft. Buffalo posses picks 56 and 62, while the Chiefs hold picks 63 and 66.
If it was possible, the Bills would likely prefer to take Farmer with the 62nd pick to spite the Chiefs. Nevertheless, if Kansas City wants to prevent that from happening and they believe Farmer can truly help them they will trade up for him.
