This offseason, the Kansas City Chiefs doubled up trying to find an answer at left tackle. First, they signed Jaylon Moore to a two-year deal worth $30 million. Then, they drafted Ohio State tackle Josh Simmons in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Heading into OTAs, no one knew if Simmons would be ready for the start of the season because he was healing from a torn patellar tendon. It turns out Simmons was more prepared to get back on the field than many thought because he was a limited participant in some OTA and mandatory minicamp practices. Therefore, when training started, the 22-year-old hit the ground running.
That said, star quarterback Patrick Mahomes shared some glowing words about Simmons following practice on Tuesday. According to KC Sports Network, Mahomes said, "The sky's the limit. He has a chance to be one of the best there is at the left tackle position." While Chiefs fans are already excited for Simmons, Mahomes' words should get them more excited.

Patrick Mahomes Shares Strong Words on Josh Simmons
Chiefs Kingdom is well aware of what having a good left tackle can do for the offensive line. The three Super Bowls Kansas City has won in the Mahomes era have all been when they have had a steady left tackle. Depending on which Chiefs fan you talk to, different answers could be given for who the best left tackle was among those three teams.
Some would say that 2018 with Eric Fisher was the best tackle play the Chiefs have had in this dynasty. While others may say Orlando Brown in 2022 was better. No matter which answer is given, neither player was ever considered a top player at the position.
Mahomes's claim that Simmons can be one of those guys is promising. Currently, the best left tackle in the game is Trent Williams of the San Francisco 49ers. The 37-year-old was traded to the 49ers in 2020 after spending the first nine years of his career with the Washington franchise.
Having said that, tackles as good as Williams typically don't get moved. This is why Mahomes making the claim that Simmons has a chance to be one of the best left tackles in the game is so important. Though there's no one who can tell the future, if Simmons does become one of the best left tackles in football, the Chiefs have a chance to win many more Super Bowls with Mahomes at the helm.
