Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes spoke earlier this week as the franchise prepares to host the Philadelphia Eagles in a Super Bowl rematch. It won't come as a surprise to Kansas City fans that Mahomes had a lot of praise and respect for Philly. This is just a small piece of what makes the starter the best quarterback in the league. Pressers are often boring because the franchise star always has the right answers and is willing to talk positively about his teammates and opponents.

However, what was more interesting about this presser than Mahomes' typical answers was the over-the-top praise for the Eagles. This is understandable, with league pundits never failing to point out that the Chiefs are 0-2 against Philly in recent history. Leading to Mahomes offering the following message when asked about the Eagles:

"What better challenge than playing the Super Bowl champions to see where we're at. "

This was far from the only praise that Mahomes offered, talking about Philly's impressive defensive line, poised play, and past wins. The quarterback furthered his point, talking about just how locked in the roster would need to be as a whole if the Chiefs are going to defend their home turf in Week 2. Leading to an obvious message and takeaway from the pregame presser.

A big piece of what makes Mahomes great is the quiet fury that is always lurking just under the surface. Whether it was trucking a defender on the sideline a week ago or counting to four to highlight rankings disrespect, the quarterback hears more than he lets on. The noise around the Eagles having Kansas City's number has been noted, and that showed up in the presser.

Every time he mentioned the Eagles, the QB used it as a chance to talk up the defending champs and discuss the importance of executing in such a high-pressure game. It was a message to the rest of Kansas City's roster about what it is going to take on Sunday to pull off the upset.

It seems like everyone outside of KC is tired of the Chiefs and the continued dominance. The Week 1 loss was a great chance for pundits to count the franchise out and focus on the more enticing storyline of the Eagles being the best team in the league and the next dynasty.

This isn't the first time the Chiefs have been doubted, and it unquestionably won't be the last. Mahomes' comments reflected not only genuine respect for the Eagles but an underlying message of what it is going to take to win against the Eagles.

At least this time around, the Chiefs will have the advantage of hosting the game in Arrowhead, a place that has been impossible to win in September since Andy Reid and Mahomes have taken over. Considering this and the quarterback's message, there is zero question that fans aren't expecting anything less in a game that has a chance to send a message vs. Philly.
