The Kansas City Chiefs' ongoing drama surrounding wide receiver Rashee Rice has been one of the biggest storylines surrounding this offseason. He's expected to be the No. 1 wideout when on the field, though his status has been one to watch this entire offseason.
Though the Chiefs have answers, particularly with three-time Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes under center, Rice obviously plays a large role in the offense and is relied upon.
Unfortunately, Rice will be out for at least six games. Even still, Mahomes is putting on a brave face ready to combat the detractors.
Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes on Rashee Rice: "We prepared a little bit in the offseason for other guys having to step up. . . even last year with the injury he had, guys had to step up."

Says Brett Veach added a lot of receiver depth, so they should be alright.
Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes Has Brave Face Despite WR Rashee Rice's Suspension
As reported by Charles Goldman of AtoZ Sports, Mahomes spoke to the media and had choice words regarding his standout wideout.
"We prepared a little bit in the offseason for other guys having to step up," Mahomes said "Even last year with the injury he had, guys had to step up."
He's right, as Rice clearly was the focal point of the offense early on with over 300 receiving yards in the first three games. Rice was meant to be the Travis Kelce replacement and while that didn't happen, head coach Andy Reid clearly had some plans for the ex-SMU star that weren't met. He's essentially a sun around which the offense orbits, making his availability all the more important.
That Rice wasn't on the field says as much about him as it does about the offense. Not having him on the field hurts, and could derail the team. Even still, he's the most important player on the offense and holds a huge role on the field. Mahomes is an excellent leader and recognizes what he has to say in order to be the best leader possible. Either way, you can feel the fear in his voice.
Kansas CIty's leader knows that he needs Rice and knows that it hurts the organization to now have him between the sidelines. Mahomes will always support his players, even if it's not the best decision to make, and it'd be a surprise for him to say anything other than a statement out of support.
Now, it'll be Xavier Worthy, Marquise 'Hollywood' Brown, and JuJu Smith-Schuster handling the load alongside the rookie Jalen Royals. We'll see how it goes, but Rice will be missed.
Rice simply must be on the field once the playoffs commence. He should be, but Mahomes' comments, while putting on a brave face, suggest just as much.
