New Orleans was not kind to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night. The Chiefs were looking to become the first team in the Super Bowl era to win three straight championships but were defeated soundly by the Philadelphia Eagles 40-22.

While it was a bad night to be a Chief, it was a specifically bad night to be Patrick Mahomes. The star quarterback was pressured on 40.5% of his dropbacks and sacked six times in the loss to the Eagles. But while Mahomes dealt with it on the field, his personal quarterback coach made a promise off of it.

Patrick Mahomes’ Personal Quarterback Coach Vows Not to Return to New Orleans

After initially responding to a tweet from Mahomes earlier this week, Stroupe broke his silence on his thoughts from the Super Bowl. His latest tweet was less inspiring than the “New Levels, New Devils” message he sent on Monday and made a personal vow not to return to New Orleans unless his children had an emergency in that city.

There aren’t any details of Stroupe’s experience in New Orleans, so we don’t know what caused him to feel this way. Mahomes didn’t have a great night throwing for 257 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions when he wasn’t getting flattened by an Eagles defensive lineman and the Chiefs were never in the game despite a pair of late touchdown throws late.

We also don’t know what may have happened after the game but what’s more important is how Stroupe helps Mahomes respond from Sunday’s loss.

Mahomes had a solid year, completing 67.5% of his passes for 3,928 yards, 26 touchdowns and 11 interceptions last year. But it was his first season as a starter where he didn’t throw for more than 4,000 yards and the second straight year without throwing 30 or more touchdowns after reaching that mark in four of his first five seasons as a starter.

With one of his top weapons contemplating retirement, the spotlight will be on Mahomes to bounce back and help the Chiefs reclaim the throne in 2025.
