Already being on the practice field and moving as well as he has been only seven months after the surgery is incredible. For those doubting he would be able to play in Week 1, not only is the star expected to be back in the lineup, but he has been full go in training camp and is moving far better than anyone could have reasonably expected, pointing to how underrated the quarterback has become.

Coming back from this level of injury in only seven months cannot be overlooked or underrated. It takes a level of obsession and focus that speaks to the greatness of Mahomes. For the Chiefs, it is important to remember this and never take for granted the performance of a player who remains the league's most accomplished and impressive starter.
This is the case in every phase of the game and now includes an incredible comeback only months after suffering a serious season-ending injury. Kansas City fans never doubted that the quarterback would be able to return early in the season, and this is due to the undeniably focused nature of a player who is focused on doing whatever it takes to help the franchise win.
Just seven months post-ACL surgery, Mahomes looks ready to take the league back by storm
As much trust as fans might have in Mahomes, there is no question that this still comes as a surprise. The quarterback has been cleared for training camp practice and is moving and throwing the ball at an elite level. One that suggests the Chiefs are going to return to a high level of prominence in the 2026 season.
While each injury is different, it is also noteworthy that Kansas City is getting back its quarterback in training camp while the Green Bay Packers aren't expected to have star defender Micah Parsons return until midseason. Both players tore their ACL on the same day, and Parsons is the younger player, though he does play the more physical position.
The point remains that the path back for Mahomes has been undeniably tedious, but exemplary on every level. It is a path that suggests caution when doubting the Chiefs in the upcoming season. When Mahomes has been healthy, KC's season has never ended short of the AFC Championship.
