The Kansas City Chiefs are running out of ways to point out the greatness of Patrick Mahomes, and this past week has been no exception. The star quarterback made timely plays to beat the Las Vegas Raiders while leaning on a run game that has carried the offense for much of the season. Mahomes continued to make a positive impression even after the game, taking time to praise his veteran rival Kirk Cousins and Las Vegas' own quarterback situation.

Mahomes didn't have to take the time to praise Cousins not only for what he is doing on the field, but also for the example he's setting for the No. 1 overall pick this past draft, Fernando Mendoza. Mahomes even likened the mentorship to his own back in 2017 with Alex Smith.

It was a nice moment from KC's signal caller and points to his overwhelming ability to build up those around him while also having a level of intensity that demands greatness as well. It's an attitude and mindset that Chiefs fans will always appreciate and never take for granted.

Mahomes, throughout his storied career, has been open about how meaningful that one season sitting behind Smith was for him. Not just professionally, but personally. Watching how Smith conducted himself off the field as a husband and as a father has helped Mahomes create his own family and supportive circle that makes it possible for him to have peace of mind and go dominate on game days.

So far, for the Raiders, this year with Cousins at the helm is working out about as well as one could expect for an older guy nearing age 40 coming off a torn Achilles just a couple of years ago. The offense has been humming to the tune of nearly 30 points per game, and the Raiders gave the Chiefs everything they had in the two teams' first of a pair of matchups this year.

First-year head coach Klint Kubiak has Las Vegas playing as one unit with one goal. To win. It's a philosophy that has breathed life back into both a team that was struggling and a career for Kirk Cousins that seemed to be coming to a bitter end in Atlanta.

Mahomes taking time to hand Cousins his flowers isn't surprising and points to not just a football player, but a truly good human being who never hesitates to credit those around him who deserve it. This is simply the latest in what has been a long line of these examples.
