Chiefs Kingdom took a deep breath on Sunday when Patrick Mahomes limped off the field with a little less then eight minutes to go in the fourth quarter. Fans feared the worst for Mahomes on what was an apparent ankle injury.

In his post-game press conference, Mahomes spoke about his ankle injury, saying "'it's hard to say right now. Adrenaline still going. Usually, it's the day after (that you can tell). I feel like I could have finished the game under different circumstances. I think it was a smart decision to put Carson (Wentz) in."

Chiefs News : Patrick Mahomes comments on the ankle injury he sustained against the Browns

Mahomes comments assessing his potential ankle injury are understandable. Typically, when a player doesn't head straight to the locker room after an injury they might not 100% feel all the effect of said injury.

In Mahomes' case, he stayed on the sidelines and got his ankle wrapped, which made it look like he may come back in. That outcome points to the adrenaline that Mahomes says he is feeling.

Despite that adrenaline, like Mahomes mentioned Carson Wentz finished the game. Mahomes opting to let Wentz play the rest of the game was the right decision. When Mahomes got injured the Chiefs were up 21-7 with no route for a Browns comeback.

Mahomes claiming he could have played in different circumstances, likely refers to if it was a one score game. While Mahomes grit to play though injuries is nothing new, it is a good thing he wasn;t forced to reenter the game.

The Chiefs have a tough schedule coming up, playing two games in ten days against the Houston Texans and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Mahomes needs to be as healthy as possible for those matchups against playoff hopefuls.

Hopefully, once the adrenaline wears off Mahomes ankle doesn't feel a lot worse.
