It would be a massive understatement to say that the Kansas City Chiefs' start to the 2025 NFL season has been disappointing. They're 0-2 for the first time in the Patrick Mahomes era, and it's also the first time they've dropped three games in a row during that stretch.
Steve Spagnuolo's defense continues to be among the best in the game, but the same cannot be said of the offense. It hasn't been the same since Matt Nagy replaced Eric Bieniemy, but their issues might run a little deeper — especially when it comes to the wide receiver corps.
It's not a secret that the Chiefs' WR room is severely undermanned right now. With that in mind, general manager Brett Veach should get the Green Bay Packers on the phone to make the most of their surplus at the position.
Chiefs Must Trade for Packers WR Romeo Doubs
Rashee Rice will be out for the next four games, and Xavier Worthy could be limited even if he's cleared to return from his shoulder injury in Week 3, which is why Romeo Doubs is the perfect trade candidate for the Chiefs. The 25-year-old WR is playing the final year of his rookie contract this season, meaning the Packers could be open for business if they don't view him as a long-term option
Even with Jayden Reed out with an injury, the Packers have too many mouths to feed on the passing game. Rookie Matthew Golden should embrace a bigger role as the season goes by, and Christian Watson will be back at some point. That's without mentioning Dontayvion Wicks, Savion Williams, and Malik Heath, as well as tight end Tucker Kraft.
That leaves Doubs as the odd man out. He's had a history of power struggles with head coach Matt LaFleur and GM Brian Gutekunst, up to the point where he was even suspended for missing practice last year, as reported by ESPN. As such, and given that the Packers didn't pick up his fifth-year option, he's a clear-cut trade candidate before the November deadline.
Doubs has shown flashes of being a potential star at the position or, at the very least, a serviceable WR2. In 45 career games, he's hauled in 152 receptions for 1,796 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns. He's up to five grabs for 96 yards and one touchdown this season.
Doubs could be a factor even when the Chiefs are back to full strength, as Marquise 'Hollywood' Brown hasn't been nearly as good as advertised.
Brown is supposed to be a big-play specialist, yet he's only managed to turn 36 targets into 24 receptions for 129 receiving yards. Adding Doubs next to Rice and Worthy would give the Chiefs a more dynamic and well-rounded WR unit.
The clock is ticking, and if the Chiefs want to reverse this slow start to the season, they will need to be aggressive and make some bold moves.
