Kansas City Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce were in the headlines last week as it was reported that their homes were burglarized in October.

According to TMZ, the break-ins happened the day before and day of the Chiefs’ Week 5 game against the New Orleans Saints. Thankfully, no one was harmed in either case. That said, Kelce and Mahomes weren’t the only victims of these burglaries.

Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman Linval Joseph reportedly had his home in Minnesota, where he used to play for six years, a part of a series of burglaries last weekend.

According to the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the NFL issued a security alert on Wednesday about organized and skilled criminals – believed to be tied to a South American crime syndicate targeting pro athletes.

"“Sources say the FBI is investigating the crime wave as international organized crime. The league, the NFL Players Association and team security forces also have been monitoring the crime spree, which is believed to be tied to a South American crime syndicate. At least one other current NFL player's home was burglarized in the past week.”"

The memo also states over the last few weeks that this crime wave is not focused on NFL players, but also NBA players. Lastly, the alert from NFL Security gave a few recommendations for players, including not posting on social media in real-time, installing security systems, and not having valuables out in the open.

This is a scary situation involving multiple sports leagues, but it’s good to see the NFL, the players' association, and team security working in tandem.
