New Chiefs Veteran Pops Up on Injury Report Ahead of AFC Championship
The Kansas City Chiefs have a big-time showdown against the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday. The Chiefs are chasing history and look to win their third straight Super Bowl title.
This is the sixth time in seven years that the Chiefs are hosting the AFC Championship Game. They are used to this kind of pressure and ready for the moment. Thankfully, they are relatively healthy going into this game but had OG Mike Caliendo (shoulder) pop up on the injury report.
Chiefs News: Mike Caliendo Landed on Injury Report
Caliendo has started three games at left guard for the Chiefs this season. In the Divisional Round against the Texans, Joe Thuney started at left tackle and left D.J. Humphries on the bench.
Caliendo played in all 51 snaps against Houston, notching a 59.8 overall grade per PFF. He gave up four pressures, three hurries, and one QB hit.
The 27-year-old started from Weeks 15-17 at left guard, which allowed the Chiefs to kick Thuney out to LT when Humphries was dealing with a hamstring injury.
That combination on the left side gave the Chiefs some stability. It doesn't look like Caliendo's injury is serious, though, as he was a full participant on Wednesday.
This contest will be high-energy for sure. In Week 11, the Bills defeated the Chiefs 30-21, which was the only loss that starters were handed. In Week 18, Kansas City already locked down the No. 1 seed so they rested their starters against the Denver Broncos, where they lost 38-0.
Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen have matched up three times in the postseason, with the Chiefs winning every matchup. Last year in the Divisional Round, Kansas City topped Buffalo 27-24 at Highmark Stadium.
They seek to continue their dominance against Buffalo in the postseason, and Caliendo will play a role in it.
