One of the Kansas City Chiefs' more underrated moves so far this offseason was signing veteran quarterback Gardner Minshew to serve as Patrick Mahomes' backup in 2025.
After Carson Wentz melted down in Week 18 against the Denver Broncos, paired with his reported desire to earn a starting gig, it became obvious that the organization needed an upgrade. Minshew has a significantly better locker room presence, and he's got a better track record on the field in recent years as well.
As it turns out, Minshew revealed that he's been plotting to join the franchise for years. Fortunately for Kansas City, the 28-year-old signal caller has always wanted to play for Andy Reid.

Gardner Minshew Reveals He Always Wanted to Join Chiefs
In a recent story by Adam Teicher of ESPN, Minshew explained why he was targeting the Chiefs as his next destination.
"I knew in my head that this was where I wanted to be, Minshew said. I took a predraft visit with the Chiefs back in the day coming into the league and I feel like everything went really well. Just talking to Coach Reid then and understanding what they're all about, I always knew that that'd be a really good fit."
Originally a sixth-round pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2019 NFL Draft, Minshew is now joining his fifth organization. He's 17-29 as a starter, and while that isn't overly impressive, he's garnered a reputation as one of the league's best backups.
Unlike Wentz, Minshew has seemingly gotten better during his career and doesn't carry a significant injury history, suggesting he can be trusted as Matt Moore and Chad Henne once were.
"To get on the phone with Coach Reid and get to hear what they're talking about and also to hear how he sees me fitting and how he values my personality and what I bring to the table, that just fires me up so much, Minshew continued. To be somewhere that you feel appreciated and valued and obviously by somebody you respect so much and has had so much success to doing it."
It's a phenomenal opportunity for Minshew himself and a great boost for Kansas City's insurance policy for Patrick Mahomes. Whether or not he ever sees the field, it's obvious that this was a wise signing.
