New Chiefs Arrival Already Helping Teammates Behind the Scenes
By Cem Yolbulan
As Chiefs fans have already started looking ahead to the postseason, one of the biggest storylines for the last five weeks of the season will be regarding the offensive line. During Thanksgiving week, the Chiefs made the bold move to sign veteran left tackle D.J. Humphries.
Left tackle has been a constant problem for the Chiefs all season. Rookie Kingsley Suamataia has been struggling and Wanya Morris hasn't been able to take the next step the organization has been hoping for. In fact, the second-year player just played his worst game of the season against the Raiders per PFF.
Naturally, Chiefs fans are desperately hoping that Humphries is the answer to their problems. On Wednesday, it was reported that Humphries was already making an impact in the locker room, per Chiefs insider Charles Goldman. Patrick Mahomes said that the former Cardinals standout has already been mentoring the young Chiefs despite not making his debut with the team.

Mahomes added that he has been very impressed by Humphries early on. This is a great sign, as the veteran offensive lineman will be tasked with blindside protection for Mahomes. The two players must have good chemistry on and off the field.
Head coach Andy Reid said earlier in the week that he was hoping for Humphries to suit up against the Chargers on Sunday. The former Pro Bowler hasn't played in a game this season and only joined the team ten days ago, so this may sound risky at first. However, considering the lack of options the Chiefs have at left tackle, giving Humphries a chance in Week 14 may be Reid's best bet.
