The Kansas City Chiefs have seen multiple players walk out the door this offseason. While some of them have landed in better situations, that isn't the case with everyone. Receiver Marquise Brown signed with the Philadelphia Eagles on a one-year, $5 million deal.

While he and Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts have a good relationship, Brown has his work cut out for him in the city of Brotherly Love. It hasn't been a smooth offseason for the Eagles, and Brown is heading into a less-than-ideal situation.

Former Chiefs WR Marquise Brown Will Have a Tough Time with the Eagles

For the past year, the vibes in Philadelphia have been off. Receiver A.J. Brown has been the subject of trade talks for weeks, as he seems ready to leave town. Last season, Brown called out the offense for their lack of production.

Earlier this month, ESPN's Tim McManus and Jeremy Fowler released an article discussing what's been happening behind the scenes. And to be quite frank, it wasn't pretty. Hurts reportedly pushed back against certain suggestions, which included going under center. It was also reported that Hurts can stray from the game plan and shows "reluctance" to throwing it against zone coverage.

The piece made it seem like Hurts can be difficult to coach, and given how the Eagles' season ended in 2025, Hurts and Nick Sirianni seem to be on the hot seat this season. And that's less than ideal for a receiver like Marquise Brown, who is on a one-year deal.

There's a good chance that the Eagles move on from A.J. this offseason. In addition, there's a high possibility they will add another WR via the draft to get ahead. DeVonta Smith is another pass catcher in that room and is automatically above Marquise on the depth chart. The Eagles also acquired Dontayvion Wicks from the Green Bay Packers and gave him a one-year, $12.5 million extension.

That move indicates they like what he brings to the table, and his contract shows they plan to have a serious role in the offense. This is especially true since Wicks and offensive coordinator Sean Mannion worked together in Green Bay.

Marquise is also going from an experienced play-caller in Andy Reid and quarterback in Patrick Mahomes to the aforementioned Hurts and a first-time play-caller in Mannion. There will be some rough patches, and that will affect his production.

The Oklahoma product wasn't able to have the impact he envisioned with the Chiefs. In 2024, he was placed on IR after suffering a sternoclavicular (SC) joint dislocation. That limited him to just two games. He returned in 2025, logging 49 catches for 587 yards and five touchdowns.

While he didn't put up the numbers some expected, he was still a downfield threat for Kansas City's offense. The 28-year-old looks to bring juice to the Eagles, but given the problems the Eagles face, it will be an uphill climb for him to carve out a consistent role there.
