The Kansas City Chiefs have waited on Travis Kelce each of the past two seasons, hoping that the tight end would opt to return for one more year. With this in mind, it's not a leap to believe that Kelce is entering his last season as the 2026 campaign gets underway. This opinion was given a boost this past week with NFL legend Cris Carter posting an emotional Instagram message, pointing to this upcoming season as the "Last Dance" for the legendary Chiefs pass-catcher.
Kelce has trained with Carter throughout his career, certainly one of the reasons Kelce has turned into an NFL legend himself. There has been a consistent willingness to lean on former greats as well as coaches and peers to find every possible edge. It appears that this continues to be the case as we head into what appears to be the final season of Kelce's career.
The day that Kelce officially hangs it up will be among the saddest in franchise history because of what he means both on the field, in the locker room, and to the Kansas City community as a whole. But it seems like he's got another 17 games left in him, which is music to Chiefs fans' ears.

If this is indeed going to be it for the legend, let's hope that Kansas City can send the soon-to-be 37-year-old out in fitting fashion. There is a clear need for his offensive contributions and a sense of urgency after missing the playoffs for the first time since Patrick Mahomes took over as the starting quarterback. Every season that the quarterback has been healthy prior to last year ended in at least an AFC Championship appearance.
For Kelce, you would love to see the tight end contribute to one final Super Bowl run and go out truly on top. At the very least, you would love to see the Chiefs have a strong season and feature Kelce in big moments. A great year could convince the tight end to rethink what appears to be a pretty cemented decision on his future. Kelce was already last season's leading receiver, offering 851 receiving yards.
Regardless of the answer, there is no doubt that fans are soaking in every moment they have left with the veteran star and enjoying the ride as long as it lasts. As Carter noted in his post, there is no doubt that the Pro Football Hall of Fame is the next stop for the Kansas City legend whose impact will be remembered long after a retirement that appears far closer than Chiefs fans would like to admit.
