The Kansas City Chiefs took another step toward replenishing the roster with young talent on Tuesday. With the 2026 draft right around the corner, the Chiefs hosted 37 prospects for their annual local pro day, including an intriguing cornerback out of Missouri.
Of all the names in the building, the speedy Toriano Pride stood out from the rest. The Tigers' cornerback ran a 4.32-second 40-yard dash at the combine, and while he hasn't gotten much national buzz, he might be an interesting project for defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo's unit.
Chiefs Could Roll the Dice on Toriano Pride
While not the most NFL-ready guy on the board, Pride's speed and ability in coverage make him worth keeping an eye on.
He began his collegiate career at Clemson before transferring to Missouri for the past couple of seasons, leaving college with 82 total tackles (64 solo), 3.5 tackles for loss, five interceptions, one sack, 16 passes defensed, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, and two defensive touchdowns.
According to Pro Football Focus, he allowed an opposing passer rating of 57.0 and just 9.7 yards per reception. He allowed 20 receptions in 316 coverage snaps last season, logging a coverage grade of 73.3. His 3.6% missed-tackle rate and 47.6% catch rate were career bests, and while he gave up two touchdowns, he also picked off a couple of passes.
Pride is a bit raw around the edges and may need a year before being ready to be a full-time player. However, he also contributed on special teams in college, and that's an area where he can make an impact in the pros right away.
The Chiefs moved on from Trent McDuffie and lost Jaylen Watson in free agency, so there's an obvious need for help at cornerback. Of course, they will most likely address it in the first or second rounds, as hoping that Pride will solve all of their problems at the position would be irresponsible.
That said, he has the speed and the coverage skills to be a good pro in due time, and Spagnuolo has been great at developing defensive backs and replacing departing stars in the secondary.
NFL Mock Draft Database ranks Price at No. 250 in the big board. The Chiefs don't have a seventh-round pick, but those aren't hard to trade for, giving Kansas City every reason to stay ready to draft the local standout at a moment's notice.
