Life has been difficult lately for former Kansas City Chiefs receiver Tyreek Hill. One of Patrick Mahomes’s most dangerous weapons during Kansas City’s rise to prominence in the early 2020s, Hill found immediate success after being traded to the Miami Dolphins, but has been stuck in the mud as Mike McDaniel’s offense has lost its luster.
Things seemed to hit rock bottom when the Dolphins were blown out 33-8 in their season opener against the Indianapolis Colts, and Hill wasn’t much help with four catches for 40 yards. As if that wasn’t bad enough, ESPN’s Adam Schefter dropped a report that indicates Hill’s value is lower than ever and could mean the star receiver could be stuck with the Dolphins this season.
Latest Tyreek Hill Report Hints Ex-Chiefs WR Might Be Stuck in Miami
Schefter reported that the Dolphins haven’t received any calls from other teams interested in trading for Hill. On the flipside, Schefter says the Dolphins have no plans to trade Hill, which could mean he’ll have to figure it out in an increasingly toxic situation.
Hill’s Dolphins tenure began spectacularly as the speedster caught 119 passes for 1,710 yards and seven touchdowns after arriving in 2022. He hit another gear the following year, leading the NFL with 1,799 yards and 13 touchdowns, but things hit a wall during the 2024 campaign.
Tua Tagovailoa's concussion didn’t do Hill any favors, but he posted his worst performance since 2019 with 81 catches for 959 yards and six touchdowns. Hill at least had an excuse during that year as he suffered a sternoclavicular joint injury in his shoulder that limited him to 12 games that season, but there are other signs of decline.
Pro Football Focus also noted a similar issue in terms of Hill’s yards per route run. While he had back-to-back career-highs with 3.20 yards in 2022 and 3.82 yards in 2023, that number dropped to 1.75 in 2024 and was at 1.82 in Sunday’s loss to the Colts.
The Dolphins also don’t have much positivity surrounding the building, as Mike McDaniel’s stock is the only thing that may be dropping faster than Hill’s at the moment. The lack of suitors also lowers the chance the Chiefs would be interested in a reunion to help their receiver room, as it’s clear they (along with the rest of the league) haven’t started a conversation about a trade.
It could lead to a sad 2025 season for a player who was once considered to be one of the NFL’s elite weapons and proves it’s not just people on the internet who believe he’s not the player he once was.
