Key Chiefs Starter Suffers Injury in Week 14 Victory Over Chargers
The Kansas City Chiefs continue to excel at winning one-score games, defeating the Los Angeles Chargers 19-17. However, the Chiefs' victory came at a cost, as they took another hit in their defensive backfield.
In the fourth quarter, cornerback Joshua Williams left the game with a chest injury. Unfortunately, head coach Andy Reid didn't provide any update on Williams after the game.
Nevertheless, if Williams's injury ends up being one that causes him to miss multiple weeks, that's not good. Without Williams, the Chiefs' cornerback room consists of Nazeeh Johnson, Keith Taylor Jr., and Christian Roland-Wallace.
While Johnson is the first option to replace Williams, he has had his ups and downs throughout the year and has lost many people's trust. Roland-Wallace is likely the second option, but he is young and prone to mistakes.
Mistakes aren't really something the Chiefs can afford in their secondary right now, as they face an offense with the potential to be dangerous in the next three weeks.
Next week, the Chiefs play the Cleveland Browns, who have caught fire on offense since Jameis Winston took over as quarterback. Missing Williams could mean Winston throws for 400 yards again.
On December 21, the Chiefs play the Houston Texans, who haven't been lighting up the scoreboard this season. Regardless, covering Tank Dell with anyone who's not Willaims will be an issue.
Four days after the Chiefs play the Texans, they face the Pittsburgh Steelers on Christmas. Lately, Russell Wilson has been throwing all over the yard, so the Chiefs are going to need all the help they can get.
Hopefully, Williams's injury isn't too serious.
