The Kansas City Chiefs are busy preparing for the Divisional Round against the Houston Texans on Saturday with dreams of securing the NFL's first three-peat in the Super Bowl era. Everyone knows that this year's collection of talent ranging from the roster itself to the front office won't be the same moving forward.

Brett Veach and his staff have done a tremendous job of building a dynasty and ensuring that this team is set up for sustained success. As a result, other organizations have begun poaching key members of the franchise in hopes of replicating the Chiefs' success.

In a surprising announcement on Friday, Kansas City officially lost a valued decision-maker. According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, assistant general manager Mike Borgonzi, who has been with the team for 16 seasons, has accepted the Tennessee Titans' vacant general manager position.

Chiefs Assistant GM Mike Borgonzi Agrees to Become Titans GM

Borgonzi is the third person to receive a general manager position since working with Kansas City during this dynastic era. Chris Ballard is with the Indianapolis Colts, Ryan Poles is with the Chicago Bears, and now Borgonzi is with the Titans. Salary cap guru Brandt Tillis joined the Carolina Panthers after 2023, meaning Veach's original staff has grown quite small since he became the Chiefs' main decision-maker.

This is a well-deserved opportunity and fans should be excited for Borgonzi, though it still hurts from a selfish perspective. Borgonzi has worn many hats during his illustrious tenure with the Chiefs, beginning as the team's college scouting administrator in 2009 and working his way up to becoming the director of player personnel and director of football operations before settling on his current role as one of Veach's right-hand voices.

When organizations accomplish what Kansas City has, it's only natural for other franchises to attempt to mimic them. Steve Spagnuolo and Matt Nagy are hot names in this current coaching cycle, so Borgonzi may just be the first domino to fall.

Aside from losing Borgonzi, the next logical question becomes whether or not he'll poach any members of the staff to join his team. The Chiefs need to be weary but one thing is for certain: the rest of the NFL recognizes what Kansas City has.

In the meantime, the Chiefs hold +350 odds to win the Super Bowl at FanDuel Sportsbook. Let's send Borgonzi out on top, shall we?
