The Kansas City Chiefs have come into the 2026 season with a very different version of Andy Reid's offense. Kenneth Walker has changed the entire flow as the franchise has worked to establish the run game and consistently get the ball to Walker out of the backfield. It has been such a heavy workload that concerns around the playmaker maintaining this level of performance and staying healthy are arguably the lone offensive concern.
We are three games into the season, and Walker has 360 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns, not to mention the added 82 yards in the air for another two scores. While Kansas City clearly wants to protect the veteran back, it is going to be increasingly difficult to lessen carries as long as the efficiency remains at such an elite level.
Through three games, Walker has proven he can excel in a workhorse type level, while maintaining health. What he will need to prove is that he can do this over a full season. Walker was excellent in the Seahawks 2025 Super Bowl run, earning him Super Bowl MVP, but he'll need to find a way to stay consistent.

It will be interesting to watch whether this is truly a historic season for Walker or simply a hot start. There is no denying that the Chiefs have greatly enjoyed leaning on the playmaker early in the year to coast through what has been three easy wins without a lot of drama. While the Colts were able to put the Chiefs on their toes just a bit, the other two games never really felt in doubt.
No question, much of this is credit to Walker and sparks hope for what lies ahead. It will be interesting to watch how the Chiefs navigate this, whether they wait for Walker to cool down or attempt to lessen the back's carries by way of providing more touches for rookie fifth-rounder Emmett Johnson.
Regardless of the answer, it has been an incredible start to the season, and one Chiefs fans are soaking in after years of frustration at the position. Having a balanced offense should scare the rest of the league and send the clear message that, contrary to offseason takes, the dynasty is alive and well.
