The Kansas City Chiefs made some significant additions to the roster during the NFL Draft. Several players from the 2026 class will be expected to make an impact on this team, while others were taken as developmental pieces.

The undrafted free agent pool is another way teams make additions to the roster, and tight end John Michael Gyllenborg was one of the names added. He joined the Chiefs on a three-year, $3.12 million deal that featured a $20,000 signing bonus and $267,500 guaranteed at signing.

That number is tied for the eighth-highest mark for guaranteed money among UDFA's and points out the Chiefs wanted to make sure they got him into the building. And with the future of the tight end room in question, Gyllenborg is a name to watch for fans this offseason.

John Michael Gyllenborg Will Make Push to Stick on Chiefs Roster

Travis Kelce is back in the fold for the 2026 season, but anything beyond is up in the air. Noah Gray is penciled in as the TE2, yet nothing is guaranteed after that. Jared Wiley and Jake Briningstool are the two players at the position, but Gyllenborg could take over their spots with a strong offseason.

Wiley was taken in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft by Kansas City, but hasn't worked out for him thus far. Across two seasons, he's appeared in 12 games. In those outings, he has logged two catches for 11 yards. Wiley hasn't eclipsed 20 percent of the snaps on offense or special teams. Briningstool joined the Chiefs as a UDFA last season and has found a way to stick around. Despite making the team, he was never activated to the active roster during the 2025 season.

Now with Gyllenborg, some things could catch your attention. He's listed at 6'5", 250 pounds. His Relative Athletic Score is listed at 9.92, which is exciting. Gyllenborg can attack the seam and has the YAC ability to do some damage after the catch. In 43 games with Wyoming, he had 80 catches, 1,023 receiving yards, seven touchdowns, and 12.8 yards per reception.

Gyllenborg still needs to fix his drop problem, refine his route tree, and be more aggressive in contested-catch situations, but the tools are there. The Athletic's Dane Burgler had a seventh-round draft on him. In his write-up in "The Beast", he stated, "A two-year starter at Wyoming, Gyllenborg was a Y tight end in former offensive coordinator Jay Johnson’s scheme. He is a “Freaks List” alum because of his athleticism and weight-room numbers, which translated to the field — he showed steady improvements each season."

For a team that is looking for more answers at tight end, Gyllenborg will have a chance to stick on the roster if he flashes. Wiley and Briningstool haven't shown enough to lock down a roster spot, and with a strong summer, Gyllenborg could be on the team come this fall.
