The Kansas City Chiefs' winning streak lives on! Andy Reid's team is sitting on a perfect 4-0 record, though they had to resort to their good-old magic in one-score games to pull this one off. It wasn't easy, but they got the job done.
For the most part, this was a solid effort by the Chiefs. The Las Vegas Raiders are no longer bottom-feeders, and it took a strong collective effort to pull this one off. That said, Jaylon Moore's performance threatened to throw a wrench in the Chiefs' plans.
While the Chiefs' late call-up Mike Caliendo did not perform well either, it was Moore who was getting pushed around. He had a tough time against an elite edge rusher in Maxx Crosby, which is understandable, but Moore gave up eight pressures in this game alone, and that's just unacceptable. It's yet another reason why this team needs Josh Simmons back now.
Chiefs have a three-headed dragon at offensive tackle with just two spots available
The Chiefs are taking things slowly with starting left tackle Josh Simmons. He's been out with a back injury, but Coach Reid claimed he won't require surgery, and while there's no timetable for his return, one can speculate that it should be right after the bye week.
And there's a legit argument that Moore should be in fear for his starting spot. Undrafted free agent Kahlil Benson has done an admirable job in Simmons' absence, but he's a natural right tackle, so the Chiefs could reward him by sliding him right back to that spot.
Moore was always supposed to be a bridge player, a placeholder. He became a starter because of Jawaan Taylor's season-ending injury late last season, but he's never been much more than a backup-caliber swing tackle.
Benson has been the team's most pleasant surprise thus far, holding his own against some great players like Nik Bonitto and the Raiders' Malcolm Koonce. But with the Chiefs committing a first-round pick to Simmons, they'll likely turn right back to him as soon as he's healthy enough to play.
Moore should still have a role and stay with the team, especially considering Simmons' long history of injuries and absences in such a limited time. But there's a big difference between being a spot starter here and there and doing it every week.
Through four games, Moore has given up three quarterback hits, three sacks, and has been called for two flags. That might be a significant improvement over the ever-struggling Taylor, but it's still not good enough to be one of Patrick Mahomes' designated bodyguards.
