The Kansas City Chiefs are enjoying a perfect 3-0 start to the 2026 season while quietly grappling with what is an undeniable draft bust in Xavier Worthy. The receiver has been underwhelming in each of his three seasons, last year mostly due to injuries. Three games into the year, Worthy has offered a grand total of 63 receiving yards on ten catches, despite being given the opportunities of a WR1 in the Chiefs' offense.

Making matters worse is the fact that Worthy's elite speed trait was meant to create opportunities deep. Instead, the longest play for Worthy thus far is 17 yards. Driving home just how underwhelming this is, Travis Kelce, Noah Gray, Emmett Johnson, Tyquan Thornton, Rashee Rice, and Kenneth Walker all have a longer play this year.

There simply is no way around the fact that the longer you look at the situation, the clearer it becomes that Worthy appears to be a first-round draft bust, and it might be time for the Chiefs to turn the page. The lack of production or reliability at a position begging for someone to step up and become a more consistent answer makes matters even worse for the former Texas Longhorn.

With this in mind, if the results don't change in the next few weeks of the season, a trade should very much be on the table before the Nov. 10 deadline. There has been speculation amongst Chiefs fans on who could be the right guy to come into this offense and produce right away. Whether it be Brian Thomas Jr., Marvin Harrison Jr., Jordan Addison, or even a reunion with Tyreek Hill, the fact remains that KC needs a receiver to start taking snaps from Worthy.

Worthy has time to change minds, as it is clear a move isn't likely to happen right now. Still, the longer the receiver goes without living up to expectations, the more likely it is that the Chiefs find a new landing spot for the speedster and add a pass catcher capable of being a more consistent option.

Rashee Rice and Travis Kelce rank among the league's top five in yards after the catch, while Kenneth Walker III has been an offense unto himself. What the Chiefs need to add is a pass catcher more consistently capable of filling a secondary role.

It will be interesting to watch how they choose to navigate this and whether or not improvement comes from within the current wide receiver room or from outside pieces.
