Former Kansas City Chiefs receiver Hollywood Brown appears to be quickly running out of landing spots as the dust settles on the first week of free agency. One speculated landing spot had been the New York Giants, a franchise that badly needs to support young quarterback Jaxson Dart and has limited weapons beyond star receiver Malik Nabers.
However, this potential fit can be taken off the board after the Giants signed Darnell Mooney in free agency. With Mooney joining the roster, it is difficult to believe that New York will have any remaining interest in adding a notable name to the position after this signing.
With the Giants off the board, it is difficult to see where Brown is going to end up as teams continue to flesh out their depth charts at the position. Not having a landing spot this late in free agency likely means Brown will have to take a lesser opportunity or wait until later in the offseason for an injury or roster move to create a potential fit. For Kansas City, all of this serves as confirmation that the franchise made the right decision in turning the page from a player who offered little consistency.
Brown finished the 2025 season with 587 receiving yards and five touchdowns in what was a solid season by the numbers. However, what these numbers don't tell you is the frustrations with Brown failing to show up without warning or the limitations of an injury-prone 5'9 frame. Moving on was the only decision the Chiefs could make, and the lack of interest throughout free agency is serving as confirmation of this.
Ex-Chiefs WR Hollywood Brown Appears Likely to Settle for Lesser Role
While there is still a chance a desperate team takes a chance on Brown, it appears the more likely path is going to be found as a depth piece. If Brown wants to play for an expected contender or to find some type of security in the second week of free agency, it appears this means settling for a depth role. In truth, this is more fitting for Brown at this stage of the receiver's career, due to injury concerns and a lack of consistency.
Looking around the league, the New York Jets and Tennessee Titans stand out as potential landing spots. Both teams are attempting to support questionable quarterback situations and haven't been a premier free agent landing spot after recent struggles. With this in mind, if Brown is going to find security, it will likely mean signing with a struggling franchise.
This is the harsh reality of free agency and is going to leave the pass catcher with a difficult decision on how to proceed. Brown's other option remains waiting out the market and hoping that a contender has a surprise opportunity he can step into. Regardless of how it plays out, the first week of free agency should answer both that the Chiefs are making the right decision and that there should be zero consideration of a reunion with the former Chiefs receiver.
