Harrison Butker is washed and the Chiefs don't seem to care

Despite a horrid two-year stretch, Harrison Butker remains Kansas City's unquestioned kicker.

The Kansas City Chiefs have become a maddening football team. For more than one reason. This sentiment has been building amongst Chiefs fans ever since the bludgeoning they took at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, and it remains today. In fact, it's only grown.

Coming into today's matchup against the 2-6 Jets, you'd think the Chiefs, who lost two straight games in embarrassing fashion, would have been amped up to the hilt for this one. Unfortunately, that has not been close to the case. The defense has stood firm when it mattered most in the first half, holding the Jets to four of five field goals made.

But the pass rush remains a weak point, as does third down. The offense is a complete nothingburger without Kenneth Walker III being an elite weapon. The receivers simply can't do anything, and the offensive line might just not be as good as we'd like to think it is.

But let's not bury the story. Harrison Butker is washed. He's been the worst kicker in the league since the start of last season, and this year has just magnified how poorly he's performed.

Despite a horrid two-year stretch, Harrison Butker remains Kansas City's unquestioned kicker

Butker missed two straight 50-plus-yard kicks at the end of the half, making him just 2-for-8 this season from 50 and longer. He's become completely unreliable, and the reasoning behind the Chiefs continuing to put him out on the field is just malpractice.

What's even more confusing is why they decided to bring in veteran kicker Justin Tucker, with all his off-field noise if they weren't going to actually play him in favor of a guy in Butker so clearly mentally warped.

Butker has been a legendary point scorer for this team in so many big playoff games, but at some point you can't just go off resume. Decisions must be made based on what the guy looks like today and what you presume he will look like in the future.

If Kansas City is actually serious, the Harrison Butker era needs to be over. This isn't just a couple of bad games; it's years of some of the worst kicking in the NFL. Will Tucker be better if KC plays him? Nobody knows. He was pretty bad when Baltimore decided to get rid of him a couple of years ago.

But he can't possibly be worse than what number 7 has continually failed to be.
