If the Kansas City Chiefs win their third-straight Super Bowl this season, KC fans will thank the Tennessee Titans for their help. The two AFC squads made two trades in 2024 as the Chiefs traded standout cornerback L’Jarius Sneed to the Titans for a 2025 third-round pick and a swap of 2024 seventh-round picks.

After Week 18 wrapped up, it was revealed that the Chiefs will have the 66th overall pick in the 2025 draft, which is good. Then the two teams worked on another trade in October, as Kansas City got star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins from Tennessee.

It made sense for the Titans to move on from Hopkins as they weren’t competing for much in the AFC South this season. However, those two moves plus the Titans’ play this season, likely did not help their GM keep his job.

On Tuesday, the Titans announced they parted ways with general manager Ran Carthon after two years with the organization. According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Carthon signed an extension this past offseason and has four years left on his current deal.

For teams like the Titans, who have struggled over the last two seasons, firing a GM early into his tenure doesn’t seem like a smart move. No one expected the Titans to compete for an AFC South title, especially with question marks at quarterback and a new head coach.

That said, did the L’Jarius Sneed trade pan out for Tennessee? Not so much in the first year as the 28-year-old only played in five games due to injury. When he played, Sneed had a 54.2 completion percentage allowed on targets, a 91.2 pass rating allowed when targeted (career-high), and a receiving touchdown.

Meanwhile, Hopkins has been a playmaker within KC's offense, recording 41 receptions (59 targets) for 437 yards and four touchdowns (10 games).

Nonetheless, with Carthon out the door in Tennessee, it will be interesting to see what the Titans do at GM and if he gets another chance elsewhere with another organization.
