The Chargers reportedly signed CB Eli Apple to their practice squad on Monday, bringing the Chiefs' former hated rival into the AFC West.

Apple became infamous in Chiefs Kingdom when he played for the Bengals, routinely trash-talking players and even helping Cincinnati beat Kansas City in the AFC Championship. He's bounced around the league and struggled to stick with one squad, though there's no denying how irritating he was for fans.

A first-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft by the Giants, Apple is now joining his sixth franchise in hopes of resurrecting his career.

Chargers Sign CB Eli Apple to Practice Squad

There's no love lost between Apple and the remaining Chiefs. He and Tyreek Hill frequently sparred on social media but even those still left in Kansas City seem to hold disdain for him.

During his career, he's made 381 tackles with 60 deflected passes and six interceptions. He most recently played for the Dolphins in 2023, appearing in 10 games and picking up one interception while surrendering a 91.4 passer rating when targeted.

It's unlikely that he mades a big impact for the Chargers, hence joining only the practice squad. Nonetheless, Apple could appear in a game down the line, especially if injuries pile up in Los Angeles' secondary. The Chiefs face their division rival at home on December 8, so Apple could make a return to GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium should he get promoted to the active roster by then.

This is probably the end of the road for the aging corner. Perhaps the Chiefs can send him out with a bang.
