The Chiefs have a clear issue at left tackle even after signing Pro Bowler D.J. Humphries and 2023 Super Bowl starter Donovan Smith's latest social media post seemingly suggests he wants to come back to Kansas City.

Smith is still a pending free agent. After Humphries' injury during his debut with the team on Sunday against the Chargers, the Chiefs still have an issue that needs to be addressed.

It's likely too late for Smith to reunite with Kansas City, yet his tweet is still a humorous indication that he's willing to suit back up for the two-time defending Super Bowl champions.

Former Chiefs LT Donovan Smith Urges KC to Sign Him

This famous scene of Tom Hanks waving is a cryptic signal that Smith is saying "hello" to his old team with his eyes set on returning. Still just 31 years old, Smith theoretically has something left in the tank and was good enough to help the franchise win a Lombardi Trophy last season.

Regardless, it appears the Chiefs are stuck with Humphries, Wanya Morris, and disastrous rookie Kingsley Suamataia moving forward. Giving Humphries up to $4.5 million might prove to be a mistake, yet the decision has already been made.

It's worth pointing out that Morris played well in limited snaps filling in for Humphries. There's no reason to feel overly confident about any of Kansas City's left tackles at this point, though it was a still a positive data point to encourage some sort of optimism.

Initial reports suggested the Chiefs actively chose Humphries over Smith with rumors circulating about the latter's health. If Andy Reid and Brett Veach wanted Smith to be on the roster, he would be.

They chose to side with Humphries instead and hopefully, that decision proves to be a salient one. Through just one week, that doesn't appear to be the case.
