Former Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Carson Wentz remaining on the free agent market is something of a surprise. Wentz has extensive starting experience and has flashed potential as a starter more than once. After Aaron Rodgers, Wentz is by far the most accomplished starter remaining on the market and could become a surprise starting option if injury strikes or upgrade a team's depth chart behind an established starter.

Looking at potential options, one team stands out that Chiefs fans aren't going to be thrilled with. Division rival Denver Broncos are heading into the 2025 season with every reason to believe in Bo Nix. However, the team could easily improve its current backup options by signing Carson Wentz. The veteran would fit well with Sean Payton's typical tendency to bring in backups with starting experience.

Carson Wentz Could Find a New Landing Spot With a Notable Kansas City Rival

The Broncos' current option of Jarrett Stidham is hardly reassuring if Nix were to suffer an injury. Despite the starter's age, it wouldn't be surprising to see a spot start needed based on Nix's physical style. With this in mind, Wentz would be a fit for a team with clear concerns if Nix were to suffer an injury.

Kansas City isn't in a position to survive any extended time without Patrick Mahomes in the starting lineup. The best player in the league simply is relied on for far too much for the Chiefs to have the luxury of a backup that will cover for the veteran adequately.

Still, if the Chiefs were to need a spot starter for a game or two, they did give themselves a potentially reliable option in Gardner Minshew. The veteran backup spent parts of last season as the starter for the Las Vegas Raiders. Minshew officially closed the door on any thought the Chiefs could reunite with Carson Wentz in the 2025 offseason.

It isn't a bad decision and one that perhaps gives Wentz a better path to earning his way back into a starting lineup. Whether with a division rival or a surprise landing spot, if Wentz wants his career to continue it is only a matter of time until the former Chief finds a landing spot.
