The quarterback carousel in the NFL is always one of the most important things to pay attention to in the offseason. During the last few months alone we've seen teams like the Seattle Seahawks, Las Vegas Raiders, Tennessee Titans, New York Jets, New York Giants, and more make significant changes at the position in hopes of making a run toward contention.

That said, there are still a few available options on the market. One of those is former Kansas City Chiefs signal caller Carson Wentz, who served as Patrick Mahomes' backup in 2024 before the organization elected to roll with Gardner Minshew and Bailey Zappe this year.

Despite his extensive experience and Super Bowl-winning pedigree, Wentz remains a free agent. Now approaching training camp, he's running out of time to land a new job and extend his roller-coaster career.

On the bright side for Wentz, there aren't a lot of quality options available. It's Teddy Bridgewater, who was preparing for a coaching role when he surprisingly returned to the Detroit Lions at the end of last season, C.J. Beathard, Tyler Huntley, Jeff Driskel, Desmond Ridder, Jake Fromm, and then a gaggle of rookies.

That's hardly a murderer's row, and Wentz is the most accomplished of the bunch. For any franchise that suffers an unfortunate injury or isn't happy with their current quarterback, Wentz is a fine dart throw.

Admittedly, he wasn't impressive with the Chiefs. In his lone start, against the Denver Broncos in Week 18, he completed 10 of 17 passes for 98 yards while taking four sacks in a 38-0 loss. He was playing with the backups, but Wentz was terrible regardless. The coaching staff sang his praises and there were no reports of him being a bad teammate, though the on-field performance left a lot to be desired.

Wentz still has value as a short-yardage option around the goal line, but he's running out of time to earn another opportunity.

We'll see what happens for the rest of the summer, yet it's safe to say that this offseason hasn't gone as Wentz hoped it would.
