Former Kansas City Chiefs safety Mike Edwards has bounced around the NFL recently after he asked for his release from the Buffalo Bills last week.

The 28-year-old defensive back didn’t wait long for his next opportunity as he signed with the Tennessee Titans the next day. The Titans needed safety depth due to injuries and the former Chief appeared to be a good option.

However, Edwards didn’t play in the Titans’ Week 10 game against the Los Angeles Chargers and was shockingly cut on Wednesday. For a veteran defensive back, who played an integral role in the Chiefs’ success last season, he hasn’t been able to stick to a roster.

Chiefs News: Mike Edwards Returns to Tampa Bay

On Thursday, Edwards was claimed off waivers by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, per Ari Merov of The 33rd Team.

The former Chiefs safety is being reunited with the organization that drafted him in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Edwards spent four seasons in Tampa Bay before he joined the Chiefs in 2023.

Edwards played in Super Bowl LV in 2020, where the Buccaneers defeated the Chiefs 31-9.

The 28-year-old defensive back’s best season with the Buccaneers came in 2022. He had 82 combined tackles, three tackles for loss, three pass deflections, and two interceptions (a defensive touchdown).

However, Edwards struggled in pass coverage, posting a 110.4 pass rating allowed when targeted and giving up four receiving touchdowns. After short stints with the Titans and Bills, the veteran defender will look to prove that he can still be a factor in the Buccaneers’ defense.
