The Kansas City Chiefs are headed into their second week of training camp, and the pads are going to come on. That will allow practice to hit a different gear and start getting players prepared for the physicality of the season.
With that being the focus for Kansas City, a former Chief could be out of the league soon after his injury. WR Louis Rees-Zammit signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars in February, but his spot on the roster is up in the air. According to Mia O'Brien, Rees-Zammit missed several practices due to a lower back injury and remained out for Monday's session. If he can't return soon enough to show the Jags coaching staff what he can do, he'll be released ahead of the season.

Former Chief Louis Rees-Zammit Missing Practice With New Team
He was left off the Chiefs' 53-man roster after spending the summer with the team last year. He initially came into the league as part of Kansas City's International Player Pathway program.
Rees-Zammit played running back for the Chiefs during the 2024 preseason and even got reps as a kick returner for KC. His 6-foot-2, 209-pound frame, mixed with his athleticism, made him an exciting playmaker. He hit over 24 MPH in a rugby game once as well.
Unfortunately, things just didn't work out in his favor, and he was let go. Jacksonville also wanted to give him a shot to make their roster, but if he can't get on the practice field, he will severely limit his chances to showcase his skillset.
While he's still looking to make it on an NFL roster, he's seemingly put a deadline on making that happen. Rees-Zammit made it known that he plans on playing rugby again and is on a timeline.
Back in January, he said, "International players get probably two to three years to make it in the NFL. So, I wanted to do it at a time where I maybe could come back to rugby. I'm 24 now, probably got one to two more years to try and make it depending on how this year goes," he said. "I'll be 25, 26 when I go back to rugby. I like to think I can still play at the highest level."
Rees-Zammit played for British & Irish Lions while also representing Wales and won the Six Nations in 2021. He already wants to head back to playing rugby, and if he doesn't get healthy sooner rather than later, it's something that may happen even quicker than he thought.
