No matter how much fans of other teams want to celebrate the Chiefs' Super Bowl loss, there's no doubting their place as one of the truly elite franchises in the NFL today. Fans know it (even if they won't admit it), and players know it.

Some players have priorities other than winning Super Bowl rings — they like a specific franchise, they want a bigger contract, playing for a specific coach. But players who want to win are going to have KC at the top of their free agency wishlist.

This was clearly the case for former Chief Mike Edwards, who has re-signed with the Chiefs just one season after defecting to the Buffalo Bills.

Chiefs Re-Sign Mike Edwards After Failed Bills Run

Tom Pelissero reported on Thursday the former Chiefs safety Mike Edwards has once again signed a one-year deal with the team. A dollar value has not been announced, but after his terrible year away from KC in 2024 it's fair to assume that he won't be getting paid much.

Edwards spent one year with the Chiefs in 2023, but he made a real impact. He made 5 regular season starts, then another 4 in the playoffs en route to a Super Bowl win. He was on the field for 73 of the team’s 75 defensive snaps in that game. And riding high off the big postseason run, he decided to cash in with the Bills.

Of course, the grass is almost never greener when you leave an organization like the Chiefs. The Bills cut Edwards after just three games. Then the Tennessee Titans cut him after one game. Then the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who drafted Edwards originally back in 2020, didn’t let him play a single snap.

And now Edwards is back with the Chiefs, probably on a much smaller contract than he would have received if he hadn't left for Buffalo in the first place. The word "karma" comes to mind.

Regardless, Chiefs Kingdom will welcome Edwards back with open arms. A key contributor to a Super Bowl win is hard to get too upset with, and bringing in safety help on a team-friendly deal is important after Justin Reid's departure.
