The Kansas City Chiefs have a long offseason ahead, trying to fix the holes on the roster to return to the Super Bowl and win it this time, though the task won't be easy. Numerous key players are up for contract extensions and general manager Brett Veach has a difficult job to do.

Fixing the offensive line is the main priority, though finding more quality wide receivers and restocking secondary depth are important as well. The upcoming NFL Draft is crucial, though the team can invest in free agency too and is expected to be active.

There seem to be obvious solutions, or at least a logical plan, to address the holes outside of the secondary. The Chiefs tried several different guys during training camp and the regular season and among them was former second-round pick Kelvin Joseph. Things didn't work out for him in the NFL, though he quickly found a new job with the UFL in a Tuesday announcement.

Former Chiefs CB Kelvin Joseph Lands New Job in UFL

According to the UFL PR department, Joseph signed with the DC Defenders and will be on the roster in their upcoming season. It's a sharp fall from grace for someone who was selected in the second round by the Dallas Cowboys in 2021, but hopefully he can rebuild his value in an effort to return to the NFL.

Joseph never appeared in a game with Kansas City, being waived during the preseason. He's played for the Cowboys, Indianapolis Colts, and Miami Dolphins, participating in 33 games over four seasons.

It's rare for such a high draft pick to find himself out of the league before his rookie deal is up, as even struggling players like Skyy Moore have outlasted Joseph. Even still, the UFL is a unique opportunity and we've seen multiple examples of players being signed after shining there.

For the Chiefs, they'll likely try to retool the secondary in the draft. Veach has hit on guys like Trent McDuffie, Jaylen Watson, Chamarri Conner, L'Jarius Sneed, and more over the last several years, so hopefully he can add an intriguing talent to keep the development going in the right direction.

What the team elects to do with Justin Reid will determine how many resources need to be devoted to defensive back. Losing him would leave just Bryan Cook, Jaden Hicks, and the versatile Conner at safety, but we don't yet know if the organization will offer Reid and extension.

Either way, Joseph represents a failed experiment, but here's hoping he can prove his worth in the UFL.
