Among the few recent developmental failures for the Kansas City Chiefs at the receiver position is current free agent Justyn Ross. While the former Chief would win two Super Bowls with the franchise, the pass catcher has been out of the league since the end of the 2024 season, after six career catches, totaling 53 receiving yards. While this is far from the production Kansas City hoped for from the receiver, it appears that Ross could be on the comeback trail.

The receiver joined the UFL this offseason in hopes of breathing life back into his career. This has gone perfectly thus far with Ross playing five games with the Birmingham Stallions and producing 312 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. Perhaps even more eye-popping is the fact that Ross averages 15.6 yards per reception.

If this early surge continues, there is no question that Ross will be handed another NFL opportunity. There is even reason to wonder if the Chiefs could consider a potential reunion, based on the experience in the system and the growth the receiver appears to be showing in the UFL. Ross could be signed at a low cost as well, giving Kansas City a bit of insurance at the bottom of the team's depth chart.

Ex-Chiefs WR Justyn Ross Taking Full Advantage of UFL Opportunity

Ross, an undrafted free agent out of Clemson, signed with the Chiefs in 2022. While Ross would consistently have chances on Kansas City's roster, there was never really a path to relevance, with the receiver never moving into the conversation as the final option at the position.

Perhaps this UFL performance will serve as an example of the production Ross can offer in the right situation. Even if a return to Kansas City isn't on the table, it would be exciting to see the Super Bowl champion find a way back into the league and contribute at the next level.

There are plenty of potential landing spots for Ross if this level of production continues, with the receiver offering 62.4 yards per game in his five appearances this season. The league will take notice of this level of production and imagine how it might translate. For the Chiefs, it is gratifying to see the pass catcher proving the past belief correct, even if it is delayed development.

For Ross, this is a huge opportunity. The Clemson product has obviously understood that and is taking advantage of it. If Ross continues to play at his current level, by the end of the UFL season, NFL opportunities could come.
