The Kansas City Chiefs parted ways with veteran receiver Mecole Hardman this offseason. Hardman signed with the Green Bay Packers in an effort to find a more consistent role. Despite Hardman's inconsistent contributions for Kansas City, the receiver was a part of all three Super Bowl wins and made the game-winning catch in the Chiefs' last Super Bowl run. No question, the veteran receiver is going to be remembered fondly in Kansas City.
Hardman hasn't wasted any time making an impression in Green Bay either. Packers passing game coordinator Jason Vrable had a notable quote on the new addition:
""First and foremost, he's been very coachable. He's not like a vet who is stuck in his ways. He's been an open book. He's won what, three out of five Super Bowls. So you talk about experience, I mean, no one else in this building has ever been to five. So he's been through a lot but he wants to be coached. He wants to get his career back to what he was before he had the surgery and the injury, and he's been busting his butt. You can definitely feel the speed out there.""Jason Vrable
Mecole Hardman Already Impressing Packers' Coaching Staff Ahead of OTAs
This quote covers what exactly made Hardman so valuable to the Chiefs during his time in Kansas City. The veteran's speed is obvious; however, what is often lost is the willingness to play any role in Andy Reid's offense. Hardman doesn't have an ego that requires a certain number of touches to be willing to do the dirty work.
Yes, the receiver, like most players at his position, wanted a bigger role. Still, the veteran found ways to contribute to winning, no matter the volume of catches during his time in Kansas City. Now Hardman will get to work with Jordan Love and one of the most talented offensive coaching staffs in the league.
For the Chiefs, it was the right time to turn the page, needing some fresh options at the position. As much as Hardman's time will forever be appreciated the Chiefs need to continue to focuse on finding more consistently reliable options for Patrick Mahomes. Options allowing the quarterback not to have to play hero ball at the end of every game.
Hardman will look to take advantage of the position uncertainty in Green Bay and earn a veteran role on a team that looks poised to take another step forward.
